  • He was born on June 15, 1937 in Bhingar village in Maharashtra
  • His father’s name is Baburao Hazare and mother’s name Laxmibai Hazare
  • Anna Hazare is an unmarried person
  • He was awarded with Padma Shri award in the year 1990 and Padma Bhushan award again in the year 1992 for his efforts in bringing up Ralegan Siddhi as a model village
  • Other than anti-corruption movements that he is currently holding protests on, he is also known for Watershed development programmes and Right to Information Movement (RTI)
  • Joined in Indian Army when he was 25-years-old in the year 1962 (in emergency recruitment)
  • Started his career in Indian Army as a driver in 1963
  • Participated in 1965 Indo-Pakistan war, which he says taught him the purpose of life and death
  • He likes and reads the writings of Vivekananda, Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave
  • The much favorite book that he believes changed his path of life is “Call to the youth for nation building” by Swami Vivekananda
  • He took voluntary retirement from Indian Army in the year 1978
  • Various volunteering activities and movements have been initiated by him in his village like uprooting alcoholism, grain bank for farmers, milk production etc.
  • Recently he is well-known for his movement against corruption which was drafted by Anna Hazare and team which is called Lokpal Bill that includes everyone from the country including Prime Minster of India who can be charged against corruption.
  • In the year 2005, he was honored with “Honorary Doctorate” by Gandhigram Rural University
