One of the top-rated institution in its class the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has withheld the results of 30 students as a probe confirmed that as much as about 30 of them have cheated in the IIT-JEE exam at a centre in Punjab. The Gyani Jail Singh Engineering College in Bathinda has been black-listed and three teachers, including the centre in-charge, have been debarred from participating in any administrative work of the IIT.
The IIT Kanpur results were supposed to have been earlier. However due to all the unexpected happenings in the institutional procedure the results of all other candidates will be out on May 25.
The decision to hold the results was taken on the basis of the report submitted by a team from IIT-Roorkee which was consituted to go into the reports of cheating. As per the report the students were also given with additional time to solve the paper.
A three-member committee has been formed by IIT administration to probe the matter in detail. This committee has also been asked to submit the detailed report by June 5, 2011, as told by Kashalakar. About 1,051 centers have been handling the exams for about four lakhs candidates who have appeared for the IIT-JEE on April 10, 2011 for which IIT-Kanpur was the nodal agency
