The state government of Tamil Nadu has fixed he fee structure for about 11,000 schools in Tamil Nadu following the issue raised in the last 2 years. This fee structure, applicable to all private schools in Tamil Nadu has come into effect from this year and will have to be continued for another 3 following years without any change.
This fee structure was fixed based on the detailed report submitted by the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee, a statutory body appointed by the Government of Tamil Nadu. This committee has finalised the fee structure for all private schools in the state district wise.
District Wise Fee Structure List:
The school fee structure was fixed based on the income of the schools from fees and its overall expenditure including the teaching and non-teaching staff salary along with running costs like electricity expenses to all miscellaneous expenses incurred. The less income schools were allowed to hike the fees stipulating the range by the committee and vise versa to schools that incur less expenditure than the income.
Though 700 schools from the state has not responded to the committee’s investigation of income-expenditure reports, they were all fixed with the fee structure of their nearby schools from their area.
Earlier, no proper receipt were given to the parents for the amount that had been paid. More fees were collected in the name of “Donation” which is now regularised by this committee as per the requirement. Additionally, the schools can charge around 10% hike for the schools development process for which the detailed information has been submitted to all private schools.
The Private School Fee Determination Committee has fixed an average fixed annual fee of Rs. 11,000 for higher secondary schools, Rs. 9,000 for high schools, Rs. 8,000 for middle schools and Rs. 5,000 for elementary schools in the Chennai city.
