Indian automobile market has been an epic centre for leading car brands for the past few decades. The magnetic effect, which Indian automobile industry posses, seems to be getting stronger with higher-end brands making their way to Indian car market. Launch calendar of leading players clearly indicates that Indian consumers have all the reasons to be happy. They will soon be getting an opportunity to try their hands on variety of new cars equipped with high end features, latest technology, improved mileage and still fitting in their budgets.

The coming year has a lot to offer with new variants waiting to be launched across all segments. Although, there are many new cars lined up but few have succeed to lure and maintain consumer’s interest. Topping the list is

Honda City Diesel – This car has ruled the Indian sedan segment for years and it seems like Honda is ready to reclaim the top spot with its Honda City Diesel; which is waiting to be launched in January, 2014. Starting variant is likely to come at a price of INR 7.50 lakhs and top variant will cost close to INR 11.50 lakhs. Honda City diesel variant has been in talks ever since it got introduced in the month of November. With little changes inside and retaining the old design, Honda is ready to intensify the sedan segment.

Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha – It was the auto expo 2012 when Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha’s concept was revealed to the masses. It is speculated that latest SUV from Maruti is likely to hit the market by the end of December 2013 or as early as January 2014. With 1.3 diesel multijet and 1.4 liter petrol k series engine, this SUV has been priced between INR 7 to 9 lakhs. With its rumored 4 wheel drive options, Maruti’s SUV will take on Renault’s duster and Ford’s EcoSports.

Mitsubishi New Lancer It was not long ago when Hindustan Motors and Mitsubishi stopped selling Lance Cedia in 2012 and Indians lost a great car. Enjoyed the position of a king in rally car segment; HM Mitsubishi, balancing out the odds, are back with New Lancer. With improved looks and lavish interiors, new lancer will challenge Volkswagen’s Jetta, Skoda’s Octavia and Chevrolet’s Cruze. Being an executive class sedan, new lancer is expected to come in a price bracket of INR 12 – 18lakhs.

Mahindra XUV500 2014 – Mahindra enjoyed a spectacular success with its XUV500; of which more than 50,000 units were sold in less than 12 months of its launch. It was not the features which drove the sales for Mahindra XUV500. It was its stunning cheetah looks which does the magic. Keeping intact the looks with some churn-outs on features, Mahindra is ready to capitalize on the set platform. Mahindra XUV’s W2 and W4 variants are likely to come at little dearer to its buyers with a price between INR 9 to 10 lakhs. Bridging the gap between Scorpio and XUV500, Mahindra will compete against Renault’s duster, Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha and other few.

Datsun Go – Priced at INR 2.50 – 5.00 lakhs, Datsun Go is ready to take on Hyundai Eon, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Chevrolet Spark and Tata Nano. Specifically designed for emerging markets like Russia, Brazil and India, Datsun Go will be available to the consumers from February 2014 onwards. 3 cylinder 1.2-litre petrol engine powers Datsun go, making it a family car.

Honda Jazz SUV – Honda’s Jazz, which clearly failed to lure consumer interest, is ready to be taken over by all new Honda Jazz and Honda Jazz SUV. Honda’s latest offering in compact SUV segment will make it a delight to watch as the competition will have to come up with better offering to gain consumer interest. Honda Jazz SUV, which will be launched in both diesel and petrol versions is likely to hit the road by the mid of 2014. This 7 seater compact SUV, which is claimed to be a perfect blend of fuel efficiency and performance, will cost approx INR 12 lakhs.

Mercedes-Benz New S-Class – Categorized as world’s best car, Mercedes is ready to take on the Indian luxury car segment with its latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class 2014. With major changes in terms of design, looks and interiors, new S-class looks way better than its predecessor. S500’s (the top variant) 4.7 liter petrol engine clubbed with V8 to produce 455bhp makes it one of the most powerful car available in the market. Priced slightly over 1cr, new s-class will go on sale January 2014 onwards. This car is placed to take on Audi, BMW and Porsche.
